Top 5 DC Stories to Look Forward to in 2026

DC

If 2025 was about course correction, 2026 is about execution. This is the year DC stops talking about the plan and starts proving it works. And the projects on deck say a lot about where this universe is headed.

The Supergirl Hype Is Real

Let’s not kid ourselves. Supergirl is the most anticipated DC project of 2026. It’s the second film in the DCU and the first one that really opens the door to the wider galaxy and the stranger, more cosmic side of what James Gunn is building. As that June release date gets closer, the hype is only going to snowball. Every trailer, every poster, every new bit of marketing is going to add fuel to the fire. This is the movie that tells us how big and how weird the DCU is willing to get.

Clayface Could Be the Surprise Win

On paper, Clayface is the weirdest swing DC Studios could make this early. And that’s exactly why it’s interesting. This isn’t a risk financially, it’s a risk in perception. But horror is hot right now, and a low budget, character driven, body horror take on Clayface could end up being a massive win if it sticks the landing. If this works, DC isn’t just showing range, it’s proving they can thrive in genres outside the traditional superhero box.

More DCU Projects Will Be Announced

With Lanterns, Clayface, and Supergirl all landing in 2026, the bigger question becomes what’s next.

Yes, Man of Tomorrow is clearly the next major film moving toward production, but DC Studios can’t afford to go quiet beyond that. Even with all the noise around the impending WB asset sale to Netflix, the DCU needs clarity and momentum. I fully expect at least four to five additional projects to be announced in some form throughout 2026, giving us a clear roadmap into 2027 and early 2028.

Man of Tomorrow Set Leaks Are Inevitable

We’ve seen this movie before. Once Man of Tomorrow starts filming, the grainy set photos are coming. Count on it. Just like Superman in 2024, leaks will hit social media by mid-2026 and the internet will immediately lose its mind. The usual suspects will declare it “the worst DC movie ever” based on one blurry image, while everyone else will be breaking down costumes, colors, and context as the excitement builds.

Lanterns Shows a Different Side of the DCU

Much like Clayface, Lanterns is all about tone. This is DC proving that the universe doesn’t have to feel the same across every project. Gunn said from day one that filmmakers would be allowed to bring their own voices and styles, and Lanterns is where that promise really gets tested on the TV side. While Clayface could be DC’s theatrical surprise of the year, Lanterns has the chance to show how serious, grounded and confident DC television can be.

So what do you think will be the five biggest DC stories of 2026? Did I hit the mark, or did I miss something obvious? Drop it in the comments and let’s argue about it like adults. Or at least like DC fans.
