James Gunn’s Superman Just Got a Big Boost — With the Trailer Days Away

Hold onto your capes, folks — the hype train is gaining serious speed.

In a new episode of the SmartLess podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-chair Michael De Luca dropped some very juicy tidbits that should have every Superman fan foaming at the mouth.

First off — and I can't stress this enough — De Luca has seen James Gunn’s Superman. Yup. An early cut. And according to him? Gunn understood the assignment.

“His heart’s in the right place, his aim is true,” De Luca said. “We're really excited.”

That’s not just polite studio speak. That’s a man who saw something and is basically screaming “Y’all ain’t ready!” in Hollywood code.

He also made it clear: there’s a lot of marketing about to roll out. And let’s be real — if De Luca is talking about it now, the studio is about to unleash the Kryptonian.

So When’s the Trailer Dropping?

That’s the golden question, isn’t it?

According to @ResonantJustice on ‘X’ the Superman trailer is locked in for the week of May 12–16. He’s “confident,” telling fans, “You can lock it in.”

Now look, I had my doubts. Last week I even started wondering if WB might hold it a little longer — maybe for the week leading up to Memorial Day Weekend to attach it to Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible. But based on this new information it seems May 12–16 is very much back on the board.

And guys... I want this trailer next week. I think we need this trailer next week. This isn’t just another look — this will be the first full story trailer. That means…

• A better idea of Lex Luthor’s role

• The emotional core of Superman’s journey

• Maybe even a glimpse at the bigger stakes of this new DC Universe

That’s huge.

Remember the December Slow Burn?

Let’s not forget how they rolled out the teaser. First we got stills. Then came a snippet. Then a teaser. It built tension. It worked. They could do the same thing again — breadcrumbing us into a full trailer drop. And honestly? I’m down for that.

Or maybe they'll just detonate it all at once. Either way...

It’s About to Begin

De Luca’s excited. Abdy’s excited. Gunn’s been working toward this for over a year. We’re days away …. days… from what might be the most important Superman trailer in decades.
