BOX OFFICE BEATDOWN: Fantastic Four Struggles Superman Holds, and Naked Gun… Misfires

Another weekend, another win for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which held the top spot like Reed Richards clutching a lab report. But let’s not sugarcoat it… the 66% drop in its second weekend (down to $40 million) is rough. That brings its 10-day total to $198.4 million, which is still solid, but that frontloaded opening might sting a bit if legs don’t stretch further than Mr. Fantastic.

Coming in second, The Bad Guys 2 managed a respectable $22.2 million debut. Not bad for a sequel that didn’t get a ton of marketing buzz but capitalized on being one of the only family-friendly options in theaters right now.

And then there’s The Naked Gun reboot... oof. Just $17 million for its opening weekend. Maybe slapstick hasn’t aged as well as Hollywood hoped, or maybe audiences just weren’t ready for a Leslie Nielsen-less comeback.

Meanwhile, James Gunn’s Superman continues to quietly stay in the fight. In its fourth weekend, it pulled in $13.8 million, bringing its domestic total to $316.2 million. That puts it ahead of Batman v Superman at this stage (which had $311.4 million after 24 days).

The question now… where does it land? If those weekly drops keep hovering above 50%, we're likely talking a final domestic haul in the $350 million range. But if Gunn’s Superman can slow the descent and drop more gently (say 35–45% week-to-week), it might power up into the $360–370 million territory. Once thing is almost certain though, It is now looking like Superman will be the highest grossing CBM of 2025.
