Andy Muschietti Just Dropped a Batman Bombshell

The wait for the DCU’s Dark Knight might not be much longer.

While fans have been looking to James Gunn for updates on The Brave and the Bold, the latest piece of the puzzle actually came from director Andy Muschietti himself and it’s got the fandom buzzing.

During the red carpet premiere for the upcoming Welcome to Derry series, Muschietti was asked about the status of Brave and the Bold. While his producing partner and sister Barbara Muschietti kept things quiet, Andy let something slip.

“We have to wait a few, a couple of months to start talking about it,” he said.

That small statement may have been accidental Muschietti even joked,

“I screwed it already”

But it was more than enough to light the internet on fire.

For months, Gunn and DC Studios have kept Batman’s corner of the new DCU under wraps. This is the first real hint that a major reveal could be coming very soon.

We’ve known for a while that Gunn has been working with a “secret writer” to crack the story for Brave and the Bold. The movie will introduce the DCU’s Batman and possibly Damian Wayne, setting up a new era for Gotham on the big screen.

Muschietti’s comment lines up perfectly with speculation that DC Studios may be targeting a late year or early 2026 announcement window.

Whether it’s casting news or a full blown reveal of the creative team, the timing makes sense. Gunn is currently working on Man of Tomorrow, and DC Studios is obviously ramping up to the release of Lanterns early next year and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in June 2026.

Some fans have questioned whether Muschietti is still attached after the mixed reception of The Flash. His confirmation here seems to settle that… at least for now.

Say what you will about The Flash, but Muschietti knows how to build atmosphere and tension. His work on It and its sequel showed he can handle both character-driven drama and larger than life spectacle.

A Batman film under his direction could be something truly unique.

The most logical reason for the “couple of months” wait is casting. Gunn recently confirmed Batman hasn’t been cast yet. It’s entirely possible they want to secure their Bruce Wayne for Man of Tomorrow before going public with anything regarding Brave and the Bold. Once that announcement drops, expect the marketing train to start rolling fast.

Of course, some corners of the internet have already tried to twist this into another “Gunn is getting fired” conspiracy.

That’s nonsense. This kind of controlled timeline is standard studio strategy. They are simply choosing the right moment to reveal their Batman direction and it looks like that moment is getting close.

All in all the message is clear though, the DCU’s Batman is coming. Muschietti’s slip might not have been planned, but it’s the clearest sign yet that fans should keep their eyes peeled over the next couple of months. Who will wear the cowl? When will they reveal it? And how will it set the tone for the DCU? We’re about to find out.
