A Changing of the Guard is Quietly Taking Shape at Lucasfilm.
Word on the street…okay, The Hollywood Reporter… is that the House of Mouse is already game-planning who’ll sit on the Lucasfilm throne once Kathleen Kennedy finally powers down the hyperdrive.
The current frontrunners? None other than Dave “Mr. Clone Wars-to-Everything” Filoni and co-pilot, Carrie Beck.
Yep, Disney’s apparently taking one out of Warner Bros. Discovery’s play book and eyeing a co-president power duo to keep the galaxy far, far away from veering off course.
What’s known so far
Kennedy’s timeline: Earlier reports suggested she’ll exit in late 2025 or early 2026, though she’s expected to remain a producer on upcoming Star Wars projects.
Filoni in the spotlight: THR first named him the front-runner back in February. Given his track record—from The Clone Wars to Ahsoka—the promotion makes sense.
Beck’s credentials: A longtime collaborator with Filoni, she executive-produced his animated series, co-produced the Mando-Verse shows, and took on a larger role after her 2023 promotion.
Outside options: Industry chatter once hinted Disney might look beyond its walls, but current signals favor keeping leadership in-house.
Production realities: Kennedy is likely to stay through at least the fall as Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter (starring Ryan Gosling) heads toward production.
If the plan holds, Filoni and Beck would guide Lucasfilm as co-presidents, providing continuity while marking the end of Kennedy’s era. If this is the route they go, Expect official word once Disney finalizes the timing of her departure.
