Superman Punches Past Marvel’s Fantastic Four — And Twitter Can’t Cope
Well, well, well... look who’s wearing the cape and counting stacks. James Gunn’s Superman just flew circles around Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps in the opening weekend box office showdown.
That’s right… DC’s Big Blue Boy Scout outpunched Marvel’s stretchy family, and the numbers aren’t lying.
💥 The Tale of Two Reboots
Both flicks were supposed to be a fresh start. A clean slate. A shot at redemption after years of cinematic trauma (*looking directly at you, 2015’s Fan4stic and everything post 2017’s Justice League).
And while both debuts were strong, Superman came in just a little stronger.
Opening Weekend:
🦸♂️ Superman (July 11): $125 million domestic, $220M global
🧬 Fantastic Four (July 25): $118 million domestic, $218M global
So yeah, Clark Kent flew higher. Barely. But barely still means victory…. (cough snyder bros. cough)
🧪 Marvel’s Stretch Falls Just Short
Directed by Matt Shakman and starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Fantastic Four: First Steps was supposed to be the MCU’s next “we swear this time it’s good!” moment.
And to its credit, it was way better than that 2015 disaster (remember when Doom was a green booger? Yikes).
But better doesn’t mean best. It pulled in great numbers, but it still came in second… and in fandom wars, second place is just the first loser.
🦸♂️ Superman Soars (Finally)
DC needed a win. A real win. And James Gunn gave it to them.
With David Corenswet donning the S-shield, Superman got solid reviews, strong audience buzz, and an A- CinemaScore to match Marvel’s.
But it translated to bigger crowds and a fatter payday out the gate.
Add in a Lex Luthor ‘evil’ smirk and a superpowered Krypto, and boom… you’ve got yourself a crowd pleaser with legs.
Long legs. Not stretchy like Mr. Fantastic’s, but, you know… better.
🔮 The Bigger Picture
Let’s not kid ourselves… both studios needed this. Marvel’s been in rehab ever since Quantumania fizzled, and DC’s been dragging a Snyder shaped anchor for years.
These reboots weren’t just movies. They were statements.
And the message from audiences?
“Make it fun. Make it good. And please… no more sadboy superheroes with God complexes.” 😉
Both Superman and Fantastic Four hit around 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning critics didn’t throw tomatoes.
A win in itself.
But in this direct clash?
Marvel came to stretch… and DC came to punch.
And the punch landed first.
🍿 Final Thoughts from the Popcorn Trenches
Yes, Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake is quietly laughing at both from its $1 billion throne, and Jurassic World Rebirth is stomping around like it owns July, but make no mistake… this was the nerd brawl of the summer.
So, who wins the nerd belt this month?
🥇 Superman — King of July 2025
🥈 Fantastic Four — Solid effort, but stretchy arms ain’t enough
🥉 Marvel Fans on Twitter — Currently coping in real time
But hey, Marvel’s got Avengers: Doomsday around the corner, (or, you know, 17 months away) and DC still has to prove this Superman momentum can carry a whole rebooted universe.
For now? DC wins the weekend battle.
Let the comment section civil war… begin.
